This weeks renovation tour is from @dustanddaydreaming - the most stunning period townhouse which has had the most beautiful renovation.
Covered in woodchip and untouched for years, the owners have invested several years transforming this home. Taking your time and living in the property means you really think about how you will use the space, rather than rushing any decisions. This home is so welcoming and relaxing now and the decor works well with the period home.
We chat to the owner Anna who shares with us her challenges and advice from her renovation. Thanks to Anna for her tips and beautiful pictures too.
Can you tell us about your home and renovation project?
We bought the house five years ago and have been renovating it in stages ever since. It's been a top to bottom job, as we have replaced everything from the chimneys, to the roof, to the windows.
Beautiful deep blue kitchen which is perfect in this period home
What was the most challenging part of the renovation?
The lower ground floor was really damp when we bought the house, so we had the whole thing tanked! It was a mammoth job but we wanted to do it thoroughly, rather than opting for a quick fix solution. I would be lying if I said we didn't question the decision when we first saw the bill...
We love the rolltop bath in the bedroom!
You have a beautiful traditional style with modern touches, where do you get your ideas and inspiration?
Thanks so much! I love my Mum's interior style and she is definitely my more traditional inspiration. The more modern touches are often from Instagram/Pinterest inspiration.
We are lucky because the lower ground floor has double height ceilings and feels more contemporary, allowing us to have a little fun with the decor there.
The dining area of the kitchen which leads on to the garden. We love this bright open plan space.
What is your favourite place in your home and why?
The nursery. It feels really calm and peaceful (even when our 18 month old is running around)!
This is such a tranquil nursery
What is your biggest piece of advice for somebody about to start a renovation project?
Invest in the finishes! It's so tempting to scrimp when you're still recovering from the huge renovation costs but people always notice the finishes! Little things like nice light switches can make a huge difference.
The lounge area is relaxing and informal
What do friends and family say about your home now?
They are lovely about it. We are particularly excited for Christmas this year as the formal sitting room should be finished by early December and we are hosting Boxing Day in there!
How lovely are the stairs in the open plan area?!
