Black steel framed windows - or Crittall windows that we all know and love - have become hugely popular over the past few years as the industrial trend continues to be so popular throughout the home.

We take inspiration from Instagram and our local businesses to showcase how you can use the Crittall style around your home when you are renovating...there are so many wonderful ideas, from internal doors to glazed extensions.

If you are thinking about a renovation in the near future and need some help with where to start with your project, try our renovation advice session.

1. Floor to ceiling Crittall style windows and doors

Glazing the entire floor to ceiling of your extension is becoming such a popular look, which we absolutely love. Instead of fitting bifolding or sliding doors on the extension, fitting Crittall style patio doors with windows at the side and glazing the apex, creates a striking look. It looks wonderful on extensions of all sizes too.

We love this extension both inside and out, by Model Projects, where the glazing is the entire height of the extension and not just limited to the height of the door. We also love how the glazed ceiling has the same Crittall effect, which ties the whole look together.

The Crittall look works so well in both contemporary and traditional homes, and we love this industrial look with the exposed brick and the deep blue kitchen, creating a modern industrial look.

2. A striking shower screen

A few years ago we saw Crittall style shower screens appearing and now it's a serious must have feature in a renovated bathroom. Crittall style shower screens work so well combined with so many looks, from bathrooms with pops of pinks and blues for a bright and modern look, to mid century inspired bathrooms.

How beautiful is this shower screen in the home of our_dream_at_no_15?! Combined with the patterned feature floor tiles and herringbone metro tiles, the shower screen gives such a glamorous look in this beautiful home. The family transformed this bathroom a few years ago - clearly ahead of the crittall trend!

3. A Crittall style door the length of the hallway

Opening up the hallway is a good way to make the entrance feel spacious and bright. If you want all of the benefits but would like to separate the living space from the hallway, a Crittall style door is a striking look.

The home of placefortyeight on Instagram is one of our favourite homes which has been renovated beautifully and has wonderful Crittall steel throughout, including these internal doors between the hallway and the front lounge. The light in the hallway is just amazing thanks to these fabulous doors that stretch the whole length.

4. Crittall extension

Glazed extensions have been popular for a while and we love this Crittall extension by Uskuri Theobald Architects. By glazing a whole area of the extension, you create a really wonderful zone which is perfect for relaxing and dining, with the kitchen area completely separate. The doors can be opened up to integrate the entertaining space with the garden, although even with the doors closed there is a wonderful sense of being outside.

5. A fabulous shower enclosure

If you don't want a walk in shower, you can still have a shower enclosure which is Crittall style and will look fabulous. The style can really make the enclosure stand out and give it a great modern look in a traditional bathroom.

We absolutely love the bathroom of roseontherow on Instagram, where they have completely perfected the look of a traditional bathroom with a contemporary twist.

6. Internal Crittall doors

If you like the idea of open plan living but still want to be able to separate the space, then internal Crittall style doors like these in the home of thehousepotnoodlesbuilt are such a great idea. They allow so much light to flow between the rooms and also create such a feature too. During the day they can be kept open to integrate the living space, and in the evening closed off so you have a cosy lounge to relax in. These are a great compromise too if you love open plan living but you can't quite get your partner on board!

7. Beautiful patio doors in a smaller space

How stunning is this olive green kitchen with the brass taps, lighting and Crittall style patio doors? The combination of the doors and the colour scheme gives a sophisticated art deco look. We love that the kitchen feels bright and airy, even though it has touches of black and deep green painted units.

8. Crittall effect screen in the hallway

Simple touches of Crittall can make your home stylish and just a bit different. The home of hornsby_style is a wonderful account on Instagram to get loads of amazing ideas, like this Crittall effect screen in the hallway. From the front door entrance you can see all of the way out onto the garden, whilst the screen separates the hall from the rest of the home. They also have gorgeous Crittall style patio doors onto the garden which are well worth checking out!

9. Choose Crittall windows and doors

Another fabulous kitchen with Crittall windows and doors which we are totally in love with. What we love so much here is the use of the Crittall window at countertop level, rather than saving them for the patio doors only. Another great combination with the exposed brick and dark painted shaker kitchen - it's just perfect in our eyes! Windows are by ODC Door and Glass Systems.
