Our story
We are a creative team with a shared passion for solving everyday challenges. Logic, order and beautiful moments in our every day bring joy, calm and inspiration. We don’t resign ourselves to living in spaces that frustrate us and you shouldn’t either. The gestures may be grand, but they don’t have to be. Whatever the scale, they do need to be well thought through. We help you think things through and identify smart fixes for your everyday living.
We established archangels ARCHITECTS in 2009 in Brighton and have since expanded to Bristol and the Isle of Wight. We are a friendly, approachable and award-winning architectural practice with a mission to create cost-effective, creative, low-energy buildings that improve everyday living. As a local business, we have built strong relationships with a trusted group of consultants and contractors. Our projects range from developer housing to bespoke new build homes to extensions and alterations of existing homes.
We try to keep the design process simple. You share your lifestyle, challenges, ideas, priorities and dreams. We listen, guide, inspire, explore and collaborate. Together, we can create your dream home.

Project: Country Home of the Future
£2,000,000
This scheme in rural Hampshire proposes a new rural typology based on organic forms and a holistic approach to sustainability. Reversing traditional principles of opulent design and statements of wealth, we wanted this ‘country home of the future’ to respect, enhance and have minimal impact on the surrounding landscape. Built with local materials, the concept was that this building could be ‘reclaimed’ by the earth. Unbuilt, price is estimated.

2006
£65,000
Brighton
Affectionately named ‘the hut’, this contemporary garden room folly is located within the historic Grade 1 listed rear garden walls of an iconic crescent in Brighton. The structure stands independently of the listed flint and rendered walls, allowing it to nestle into the environment without any adverse impact on the surrounding listed buildings. Careful landscaping and low free-standing rendered walls enhance the building while also dividing the garden into different areas.
Project: From Bungalow to Art Deco
2011
£350,000
Brighton
This Art Deco bungalow extension sits on a prime location for spectacular sea views in Brighton. This project highlights the functionality and stylistic merit that comes with building upwards rather then outwards. Generous glazing allows expansive views and light to flood the space, whilst solar panels produce the home's hot water and electricity. It is hard not to adore this sustainable haven.

Bold colours transform this single storey full-width rear extension into a bright living area for a busy family. Large sliding doors with minimal frames accentuate the indoor/outdoor experience to create a seamless space for entertaining and family life.
Polyester powder coated aluminium doors open up completely to the deck and garden on warmer days. High levels of insulation, low maintenance and durable materials and environmentally friendly paints make this home a joy to live in.

2010
Brighton
Our client, a bachelor with an eye for contemporary design, owned a townhouse in Brighton with an integral 5 (!) car garage. In a prior renovation, this space had been retrofitted to create a games room, but this wasn’t quite what he had in mind for his own home.
Together, we created a solution that converted the former garage into two bedrooms, a luxurious wet room, utility room and storage facilities. We reorganised the first floor by relocating a bathroom.

2014
£330,000
Brighton, Sussex
This award-winning project begun as a tired bungalow in a spectacular location in Brighton. The goals of functionality, view maximisation and an abundance of light fuelled this upwards extension and propelled it to the dream home for the clients.
A lightweight contemporary stair creates a more logical route to the garden and leads to the new first-floor living area. The living area has stunning water views as well as a balcony overlooking the garden.

2014
