Icicle lights are a lovely way to dress up a porch or the front of your home for Christmas. We’ve picked six outdoor sets in different lengths, whether you’re lighting a small entrance or running them along a longer stretch of guttering.
Before buying, measure the edge you’d like to light and check how far the icicles hang down. You’ll also need enough cable between the first light and the plug to reach a suitable socket. For other styles, browse our outdoor Christmas lights guide, or read our outdoor-light safety guide for help with weather ratings and power supplies.

A closer look at each set
For a short porch or doorway
1. Cox & Cox Extendable Twinkle Icicle Lights
These warm-white lights have a 2.35m lit run, so they suit a porch or short section of gutter rather than a whole roofline. The drops vary from 35cm to 70cm, and the separate 5.05m lead gives you room to reach an indoor socket. Cox & Cox lists eight settings and an eight-hour timer. The set is extendable, but its product page gives two different maximum numbers of sets; check the supplied instructions before joining any.
Choose it if: A short lit run and long lead suit an entrance close to the house.
Consider instead: The transformer and plug must stay indoors, and one set will not cover a long gutter.
For a typical front roofline
2. Ollny 10m Warm White Icicle Lights
This 10m run has 400 warm-white LEDs in 66 drops of different lengths. There is a separate 5m lead, a remote, eight modes and timer choices. The listing marks the light string IP44. The long lit section is useful across a front gutter, but check where the adaptor and plug may sit; the string’s rating does not cover every component.

Choose it if: A 10m run may cover a measured front gutter in one set.
Consider instead: The 5m lead still needs a safe route to a suitable socket.
For a small porch roof
3. Christow 4m Warm White Icicle Lights
Christow’s 135-LED set has a 4m lit run, alternating 30cm and 60cm drops and a separate 5m white lead. It has eight modes and a six-hour timer. The maker says it can be displayed outdoors but its IP20 transformer plug must stay indoors. Measure the porch edge and check that the lead reaches an indoor socket without being trapped in a door or window.

Choose it if: The 4m run bridges the gap between a short doorway set and a full 10m gutter run.
Consider instead: The indoor-only plug limits where you can position the lights.
For a longer measured run
4. MAGGIFT 20m Warm White Icicle Lights
With 800 warm-white LEDs along a 20m lit length, this set is worth considering for a longer stretch of guttering or a wide porch. It comes with a separate 5m lead, a remote and four timer options, so you can set when the lights come on.
Measure before buying to avoid having lots of spare lights at one end. The seller lists the lights as IP44, but check the instructions separately for where the adaptor and connections can safely go.

Choose it if: One long run avoids planning several separate light strings.
Consider instead: The 5m lead is not unusually long, and 20m may be too much for one house front.
For a socket farther away
5. Dalugo 7.5m Warm White Icicle Lights
This set has a 7.5m lit run with 240 warm-white LEDs across 48 hanging strands. Its separate 10m lead is the longest in this shortlist, which may help when the suitable socket is well away from the gutter. It has eight lighting modes and a six-hour timer. Check the exact instructions for where its plug and controller can safely sit; the seller’s outdoor description does not mean every component can be left in the rain.

Choose it if: You need a mid-length lit run and a longer cable back to the socket.
Consider instead: Its 7.5m run may leave a gap on a longer roofline; measure before ordering.
For a 15m roofline
6. WOWDSGN 15m Warm White Icicle Lights
If 10m is too short but 20m would leave you with lights to spare, this 15m set could be a good fit. It has 660 warm-white LEDs across 120 hanging strands, with drops between 40cm and 70cm, plus a separate 5m lead. A remote lets you adjust the lighting and timer settings.
The seller gives the light string an IP44 rating, but check the adaptor’s instructions separately. Before putting it up, make sure there’s room for the longest drops to hang freely.

Choose it if: A measured 15m stretch would be awkward to cover with a shorter set.
Consider instead: The 5m lead may not reach a suitable socket, and 70cm drops need clearance below the gutter.
What to check before buying
Measure the edge and the hanging drops separately
The listed lit length runs along the gutter or porch; it does not tell you how far the strands hang. Check the lowest drop will clear doors, windows and anything people walk beneath. Keep some slack at corners rather than stretching the wire tight.
Plan the fixing points before reaching for a ladder
Removable gutter hooks can work on sound guttering; smooth porch trim may need a different clip. Choose a fixing that suits the actual surface and follow its load instructions. If the line is too high to reach safely, get suitable help rather than leaning from a ladder.
Keep the whole power route safe
Measure from the first bulb to the socket separately from the lit run. Keep the lead out of doors and paths, and put plugs, adaptors and connections only where the maker permits. Electrical Safety First says lights plugged in outdoors need a 30mA RCD-protected socket. We compared the exact retailer listings for dimensions, colour and stated outdoor use on 19 October 2026; we haven’t installed or weather-tested these sets.
Frequently asked questions
Can icicle Christmas lights go on a gutter?
Yes, if the set is marked for outdoor use and the gutter is sound. Use suitable removable gutter hooks and follow their instructions. Do not pierce the light cable or overload loose guttering.
How long should the icicle drops be?
Check the listed drop range as well as the horizontal run. Shorter drops suit a low porch; longer drops can hang too close to a door or window.
Can I leave the transformer outside?
Only when the exact product instructions allow it. An outdoor rating for the light string does not automatically cover the transformer, plug or connections.
Can I join two icicle-light sets?
Only join matching sets when the maker explicitly permits it and states the maximum number. Do not mix connectors or assume that all extendable sets have the same limit.
