We absolutely adore this week's renovation tour of redbricks_lifestyle on Instagram. The owner, Katya, is both an interior stylist and artist which is evident in her stylish home that flows so well, using a beautiful combination of colours and materials throughout.

The renovation had already started when Katya and her husband bought the property, essentially buying a shell which required so much work. It's in an idyllic location and looks like the perfect place to raise a young family. Katya shares with us her renovation story as well as some gorgeous pictures of her home.

Can you tell us about your home and renovation project?

We bought our house in June 2019 from a lovely family that had unfortunately experienced a really tragic event which meant they could no longer carry on building the property.

It was basically just a shell when we took it over with no internal finishing other than some plumbing and electrics, we didn’t have a staircase and used a ladder for months to move building materials up and downstairs, the roof was leaking and the chimney also needed work.

We love the deep blue kitchen finished off with the brass pendants and handles

What was the biggest challenge and why?

As we took over the build part way through but had no plans or any details for what had been done where, so we had to spend a lot of time working through all the existing wiring and plumbing to make sense of it all....a couple of pipes were drilled through along the way!

The large hallway is such a wonderful entrance

Did you have a budget and how did you stick to it?

We did have a fairly healthy but strict budget. My husband is a property developer and I’m an interior stylist so we are both used to budgeting for projects like this one, and we budgeted for all the items we knew we would want before we even started.

We love the dusky pink in the bedroom

What are you most proud of?

I think it would have to be our master en-suite that we are most proud of, everything came together so well in there ...I’m a massive fan of Fired Earth UK and their herringbone tiles work so well across the floor and up to the ceiling...I’ve also enjoyed my own design touches in here and made a beautiful ladder with hanging flowers to go above our bath.

Beautiful bathroom in the master en-suite

Where is your favourite place in your home now?

The kitchen! It works even better than we could have imagined and we spend most of our time here as a family, I’m especially glad we put the recess in underneath the kitchen island as at first we hadn’t planned on doing that but me and my husband sit here everyday either working or eating together.

The exposed brick is a wonderful feature around the oven

What do family and friends say about your home?

How lucky I am to have such great space..we are fortunate enough to have around 3 acres of land with the property which has allowed us to keep animals and grow our own vegetables too.

We recently built a large tree house and outdoor play area and it’s been a godsend during lock down.

We are currently building an outdoor bar which we will hopefully be able to enjoy with our friends and family in the not too distant future.

The lounge has a lovely relaxed feel
