Warm-white curtain lights hanging across a broad window on a British house at dusk
Illustrative image; not a photograph of a recommended product.

Curtain lights are a lovely way to make your home feel more festive, whether you hang them across a front window or under a sheltered porch. We’ve picked six sets in different sizes and styles, from a soft warm-white glow to a wider display for a covered outdoor space.

Before buying, check the width and drop against the space you want to decorate, and make sure the lead will reach a suitable socket. If you’d prefer lights along your guttering or roofline, take a look at our icicle-lights guide.

A closer look at each set

For a medium front window

1. MAGGIFT 3m × 3m Warm White Curtain Lights

These 450 warm-white LEDs make a full-height curtain for a broad window or sheltered porch opening. The separate 5m lead gives more room to reach an indoor socket than many shorter-lead sets, and the remote offers eight modes, brightness settings and a timer. The lights have an IP65 rating; check the instructions for the plug and any connections separately.

Choose it if: You want a warm-white 3m-wide display and need the longer lead.

Skip it if: A 3m drop is too long for a low window or rail.

For a wider wall or opening

2. Elegear 6m × 3m Warm White Curtain Lights

Elegear’s 600-LED curtain spreads across a 6m top line, with 24 hanging strands and a 3m lead. It could suit a genuinely wide, fairly flat frontage where a 3m-wide set would look lost. The light string has an IP44 rating, but the mains power supply is not waterproof. Keep the plug where the instructions allow.

Choose it if: Your measured display area is close to 6m wide.

Skip it if: The width and 3m drop would leave a lot of spare wire on a smaller house front.

For a brighter colour display

3. 3m × 3m Multicolour Curtain Lights

This multicolour 300-LED curtain gives a different look from the warm-white picks, without needing a 6m-wide area. It has ten hanging strands, a separate 3m lead, a remote and timer options. The lights have an IP65 rating; confirm the protection needed for the plug, controller and joined connections before using them outside.

Choose it if: You want a defined splash of colour across a window or porch opening.

Skip it if: You prefer a quieter warm-white look or need more than a 3m lead.

For a very wide covered area

4. CORST 9m × 3m Warm White Curtain Lights

With 720 warm-white LEDs over a 9m width, this is for an unusually long, flat run rather than a typical front window. It has a remote, brightness settings, a timer and a separate 3m lead. The strands have an IP44 rating, but this set is for a covered outdoor position, with the plug and controller protected from water. Do not choose it for an exposed wall without confirming the instructions allow your setup.

Choose it if: You have measured a long, covered frontage and can protect the power supply.

Skip it if: The display will be exposed to rain or you need a shorter, easier-to-hang set.

For a narrower window

5. Festive Lights 1.6m × 2m Warm White Curtain Lights

This curtain has a 1.6m top line and a 2m drop, so it could suit a narrower window that would be swamped by a 3m-wide set. Its 339 warm-white micro LEDs have eight lighting modes, and the separate 5m lead gives you more room to reach a socket. The set has an IP44 rating; check the instructions for where the plug and connections can safely go.

Choose it if: You want a narrower warm-white curtain and the extra reach of a 5m lead.

Skip it if: A 2m drop will hang too low, or you need a wider top line.

For a choice of white tones

6. YOSION 6m × 3m Warm-to-Cool White Curtain Lights

This 600-LED curtain covers a 6m-wide line with a 3m drop, but unlike the other wide warm-white picks, it lets you switch between warm and cool white. It has 24 hanging strands, a separate 3m lead, a remote, dimming and timer settings. The lights have an IP44 rating, but the plug is not waterproof. Follow the instructions for protecting the power connection outdoors.

Choose it if: You have a genuinely wide area and want to change the white tone.

Skip it if: Your frontage is shorter than 6m or the plug cannot be kept where the instructions require.

What to check before buying

Fit the top line and the drop

Measure the safe fixing line first, then the clear height beneath it. Curtain lights need room for the longest strands to hang without catching on a door, step or plant. Don’t count the lead to the plug as part of the lit width.

Plan the power route

Check where the first bulb starts and how the lead reaches a suitable socket without being trapped in a closing window or crossing a path. The string’s weather rating is not automatically the rating of its transformer, plug or controller. Read the instructions for each component; our outdoor-light safety guide covers the wider checks. Electrical Safety First advises RCD protection for lights plugged in outdoors.

Choose the display you actually want

Warm white gives a softer, more consistent backdrop; multicolour stands out more. Steady-on mode is useful if you don’t want a changing pattern. Timers and remotes can make a set easier to live with, but they matter less than getting the width, drop and safe power position right.

We compared exact Amazon UK variants for size, colour, lead length and stated outdoor use on 20 October 2026. We haven’t fitted or weather-tested these lights; confirm the supplied instructions and current offer before ordering. For other shapes, browse our outdoor Christmas lights guide.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between curtain and icicle lights?

Curtain lights usually have hanging strands across a broad, fairly flat opening, often with a longer drop. Icicle lights are designed for a narrower line along an edge such as guttering, with shorter uneven drops. Check the actual dimensions rather than relying on the product name.

Can curtain lights be hung outside a window?

Only if the exact set is approved for outdoor use and you can keep its plug, controller and connections where the instructions permit. An IP rating for the light string does not automatically apply to the whole system.

How do I choose the right width?

Measure the top line you can safely attach the curtain to, then check the hanging height and separate lead to the socket. A set much wider than the fixing area will be awkward to bunch neatly.

Can I connect two curtain-light sets?

Only if the manufacturer permits joining those exact sets and gives a maximum number. Do not assume similar-looking connectors are compatible or mix different products.
